Think about the last gig you went to, or movie, or book you read, or clothing you bought. Think about your motivations for forking out your hand earned dollars. In fact, if you're a statistics nerd you might be excited to hear that 66% of all goods sold in North America are marketed through a friend's recommendation. That's a lot of word of mouth sales. So why does all the advertising money go straight to people who do those horrendous voice overs and erect those hideous billboards?

What's a posse agent?

A Posse Agent is not just about the bling, not just about the hustling. Posse takes everything exciting and glamorous about this hitherto dubious calling and turns it into an esteemed and professional venture. A Posse Agent is someone who collects commission for the simple activity of promoting things to their friends and colleagues. To become one, all you need to do is create an Agent account (bling is entirely up to you). You'll be given your own page on Posse which you can use to search for products and events you'd like to help promote. Once you find something you think both you and your friends might be interested in, you can grab the advertising banners, images or links for that product or event and add them to your website, social networking site, email, or anywhere else you can think of. Every time someone clicks through your ad or link, wherever you've placed it, and purchases something, you'll be rewarded with a commission. It might not be criminal but it's so easy it should be.

How do I make money?

Let's face it, it's all about the money. We all need it, we all spend it too quickly. With Posse you'll be able to make money from doing what you do most days of the week already. Once you become a Posse Agent, you can search for products or events that hold your interest and start promoting them! You can let all your friends and colleagues know about the products or events you've chosen by emailing them links, or by promoting them via banners on your personal or social networking sites. Let your imagination run wild - post bulletins, add to your email signature, put a banner on your Myspace page, have a feature on your Facebook site. How do I know that my friends are buying real tickets or products?

Good question. We've all been burned at some time, right? It's not going to happen on Posse. We're partnered with a number of well known expert supply companies who deal with the fulfillment of various products on Posse's behalf. For instance, all concert tickets are administered and handled by Ticketmaster in Australia. Although your friends will feel that they are buying directly from you, they are actually buying directly from a secure Ticketmaster site and receiving their ticket delivery from Ticketmaster. You get to just bask in the glory and take a commission for the illusion of having your own ticketing company (or record store, or fashion outlet). Not a bad way to work when you think about it.

Do I ever need to pay anything to be a Posse Agent?

This is the best part. The answer is a resounding no. You only ever make money from Posse, we will never charge you anything ourselves. You might want to outlay personally for a new hat, but that's up to you.

How do I get paid?

Good to see you're asking all the important money questions. That's good business sense. Every time somebody clicks through one the ads or links for something you're selling on Posse, and that click results in a sale, then you make a commission. It's that easy. The amount of the commission is 5% of the advertised price of the item. If an item has any additional charges such as postage and handling or ticket booking fees, your commission is worked out as 5% on the net price before these additional charges. So for example, if you get twenty friends to buy tickets for a concert that's selling at $50 per ticket, you'll get paid $50. That's $50 for telling twenty friends about a concert you would have been organising to go to with them anyway! Once you've made $20 or more in commissions, you can choose to enter your bank account or Pay Pal account details, and Posse will deposit your commissions directly into your chosen account.
